Blog helps building a community where everyone including teachers and students to share opinions. In traditional classroom, students may be afraid or don’t have chance to express their opinions, while on line they will feel less pressured. By using blog, students get more opportunity to practise langauge besides in class. Moreover, blog allows more than one type of information to be involved. There will be pictures, video, audio and even links to other blogs or websites. Thus communicating through blog, students can get access to knowledge and communicate with each other more effectively than in traditional classroom.
As for perfessional development, blog allows seaching and consulting posts in the past, in another word it is archived. I can review the previous classes easily by searching inside my blog. As a teacher, it is important to have a clear knowledge about what to teach and how to connect it with what is learnt before to help students better view language learning as a whole. These clear and detailed records also allow students whenever they need to review knowledge.

Thank you for inspiring me of using blogs for us teachers' own use. I just concentrated on how to interact with students through blogs, but I didn't realize that blogs can be used by us teachers as a way to organize, search and archive teaching materials. Good point!

ReplyDeleteHi, Jing! I think it is excellent to focus on the function of blogs as archive. Keeping data and open regardless of time and space is really convenient. Also, blogs can contains various media files and pictures to help students' understanding. It is difficult for us teachers to use all media materials for teaching in the middle of lesson because of lack of time and technology. As you mentioned, blogs can be very useful way to help students' language learning.
